Marrakech is a fantastic city full of so much to see and do. But one of the amazing things to do while you are in Marrakech is to leave! Now I’m not trying to confuse you, what I’m trying to say is that Marrakech has the fortune of being within an hour to 3 hours away from some wonderful sites in Morocco. So while you are on holiday or in the Red City for an extended visit, you should consider going on one (or all if you’re adventurous) of our Marrakech day trips!
We can begin with our Atlas Mountains day excursion. Marrakech is located at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains which is home to the highest point in North Africa, Mount Toubkal. On this excursion, you will have a guide that will take you to some local craft businesses, enjoy traditional Berber cuisine with some Moroccan mint tea and access the amazing panoramic views.
Ouzoud is surrounded by green valleys, orchards, gorges and the stunning El Abid River. This tour will include getting wet so remember to wear your swimming costume! You can row a boat or swim across the pool below the falls. Then afterwards take pictures with some Barbary apes and enjoy fresh tangerines from right off the trees. Finally enjoy a traditional Berber lunch from one of the local restaurants and photograph the nature around you.
Known for its walnut, apple and cherry production, the town of Imlil experiences a cooler climate than other places in the countryside. This is mainly due to its location so high up in the Atlas mountains – around 5710ft above sea level. Our Imlil day tour from Marrakech is perfect for climbers of all ages and abilities. Certified guides are on hand to offer visitors a variety of treks. There will also be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the majestic scenery of Toubkal and sample the local food.
On our Ourika Valley trip, you can experience breathtaking landscapes and the kindness and infectious joy of the Berber people who live there. You will climb the mountain, stop off at the Berber Souk, it is an eye-opener and a must-see for the curious traveller. At the top, guides are available to show you up to the peak and see the waterfalls cascade down. Afterwards you’ll makee your way down, across the wooden bridge towards the river. There you can recline on cushions and comfortable Moroccan armchairs on the banks of the Ourika river. While the waters lap at your feet, fresh salads, aromatic tagines and warm Berber breads are brought to you. Traditional musicians play nearby and you have a chance to rest before you get back on board our luxury vehicles to transport you home.
Essaouira, is the perfect beachside getaway that’s only 2 hours away from Marrakech. Its the kitesurfing capital of Morocco and its chill, surfer vibe is felt all over the city. A typical tour of Essaouira will take in camel excursions, quad biking and kite surfing. We tour the Medina, the harbour and beaches where the welcome breeze helps the city enjoy a more moderate climate.
Paradise Valley, appropriately named is a another one of our hiking in stunning nature type tours. This area is not too far from the city of Agadir so roughly 3 hours from Marrakech. You will begin your trek by driving up to Aourir. A trek up to the top of the mountain here reveals a phenomenal view of a huge, pine tree covered canyon, with the river Tamrhakht snaking its way through a lush green oasis.
Its incredible to think that Marrakech which is surrounded by mountain ranges is only 3 hours away from the Sahara Desert. Our Ouarzazate desert trip is a wonderful way to experience the desert for the first time. Surrounded by the Anti-Atlas mountains with palm trees sprinkled around the rough terrain, Ouarzazate has become a thriving desert city that attracts more and more expatriates every year. Because of its desert environment and proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage site Ait Ben Haddou, the quiet city has become the “Hollywood of Morocco.” On this Marrakech day excursion, you will be able to see the kasbah town of Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate old town, and experience the thrill of a camel ride and the energy of the bustling markets.
